Kadar Amma’s story of strength and breaking a cycle of adversity

Satram’s sudden passing during the COVID-19 pandemic left his daughter, Kadar Amma, and her ailing mother in deep distress with no means of support. Already a student at Aarti School, Kadar Amma was brought to Aarti Village under their COVID-affected family program. Here, through the support of initiatives focused on girls’ education and empowerment, like the Women’s Education Project, this once hopeful girl, who had witnessed only hardship, began a remarkable transformation. Embracing her education at Aarti School and actively participating in leadership classes, she has gained newfound confidence and determination. Kadar Amma, drawing strength from her past struggles and the unwavering support of the Aarti community, now looks forward to breaking the cycle of adversity and building a brighter future for herself.

At Aarti, Education is Our Priority

We firmly believe that education is a fundamental right, not a privilege. At Aarti, we foster a community built on equality and equal opportunity, delivered through three impactful programs:

1. Aarti School: Nurturing Bright Minds

Established in 2007 on the foundation of kindness, compassion, and empathy, Aarti School provides quality education to children who might otherwise miss out. We cater to students joining later in their educational journey or those from backgrounds where education isn’t prioritized. Since 2022, Aarti School has offered high quality education, supported by our Bridge Program for students needing extra academic or English language assistance. Our commitment is evident in our average GPA of 8.8 and 100% pass rate. We also empower our students to become advocates for girls’ education through various awareness initiatives.

Know Your Child
This is a unique initiative started by Aarti for Girls, which involves home visits by the teachers and social workers to meet and interact with the families of the children. This has helped the teachers to completely understand the child’s situation and effectively plan for and implement the child’s holistic growth. Since the introduction of this initiative in 2020, there has been a great improvement in the students’ overall progress, attendance, parental involvement and the child’s health and interaction with his peers.

Makerspace
Aarti School has tied up with BiBox labs to build a Makerspace where the students can create objects using a variety of tools materials. Initially, 170 students of grades 4-6 are imparted skills in electrical and electronic circuit making. This fun and engaging initiative has shown positive results as the students’ attendance has improved, as well as their self confidence, along with understanding of the subjects. They actively participate in classroom discussions and are able to create different circuits adding and deleting components. The hands-on experience has improved their problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Creative Schooling
The students of Aarti School are first-generation learners and a large percentage of them are attending school for the first time. Aarti School admits such students and trains them to gain age-appropriate skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic through the Aarti Creative School. Periodic assessments are conducted and the students are shifted to regular school once they gain the required skills . It has been observed that the students, with sustained efforts from the teachers develop these skills within a period of 6 months.

2. Aarti Cares: Empowering Future Leaders

Aarti Cares identifies and supports high-achieving girls from impoverished backgrounds who are at risk of dropping out of school after grade 10. This program provides the resources and encouragement these bright young women need to continue their education and pursue their academic dreams. Starting with 3 girls in 2024, we expanded our reach to support 50 girls in 2025.

3. Children for Children: Kids Helping Kids Globally

Witness the power of global collaboration at Aarti. This inspiring initiative connects young volunteers worldwide with Aarti children. Through online interactions and collaborative projects, they create lasting bonds, exchange knowledge, and provide vital support. During the COVID-19 pandemic, over 70 student volunteers from 17 cities across India, the US, and Dubai came together to provide nutritious meals for 632 children, create educational materials, and conduct online learning sessions. This remarkable effort ensures that Aarti children continue to learn and thrive, embodying the spirit of kids helping kids across borders.
