Aarti-Vijay Foundation Trust

Our organization began in 1992. We decided on the name Vijay Foundation Trust, Vijay meaning "success" in Telugu, the local language. One of the original supporters of the organization was Sandhya's niece, Aarti.

Aarti was a high school student living and studying in Nashua, New Hampshire. She was one of the first to raise money for the foundation through a fundraiser she organized at her school.

Several months after Vijay Foundation Trust became an accredited NGO, Aarti died in a tragic hiking accident. In honor of her life and commitment to the cause, we unofficially changed the organization's name to Aarti for Girls. Officially, Vijay Foundation Trust is still the name of our organization, but locally and internationally, our organization is known by all as Aarti.
